Key Features

At the heart of the CD6004 is Marantz’s own HDAM-SA2 circuitry, a discrete, custom-built amplifier stage designed in-house by Marantz rather than relying on standard off-the-shelf op-amps. The idea is that a purpose-built circuit can respond more quickly and cleanly to the audio signal, giving a more analogue-like character to the sound. This is paired with a Cirrus Logic CS4398 DAC, which handles digital filtering, noise shaping, and digital-to-analogue conversion in a single chip, and a symmetrical, mirrored circuit layout intended to improve stereo imaging and reduce interference between channels.

Build quality has had particular attention: the chassis includes an additional metal plate for extra rigidity, and the CD mechanism is centrally mounted within the casework, both measures aimed at reducing vibration that could otherwise affect sound quality. The player supports playback of standard CDs, CD-R/RW discs, and MP3/WMA files, and includes CD-Text display. A front-mounted USB input offers direct compatibility with iPod and iPhone devices for digital playback and control, while the rear panel provides gold-plated analogue outputs along with a coaxial digital output for connection to an external DAC. A headphone output with dedicated HDAM-SA2 buffer stage and separate volume control is also fitted, useful for private listening without engaging a separate amplifier.
