At the heart of the dAD3 is an 18-bit digital-to-analogue conversion module, achieving well over 100dB of true dynamic range with negligible distortion, an implementation carried down from the flagship Dacmaster’s development to give superior resolution of low-level signal detail and accurately reproduce the subtleties and ambience of a recording. A high-stability, low-jitter clock system, specifically developed for the dAD3, keeps clock jitter below 100 picoseconds, ensuring low-level musical information is not masked by time-related distortion artefacts, which can otherwise smear and reduce clarity in the midrange. Extensive inter-stage power supply decoupling and star-earthing techniques isolate the sensitive analogue circuitry from the high-speed digital sections, removing power-supply imprint from the signal path and preserving coherent musical timing. The transport itself is an integral, isolated loader CDM built around a monolithic glass laser assembly. The dAD3 also features Cyrus’s MC-BUS system, allowing it to communicate with other MC-BUS-equipped Cyrus components, and includes provision for connection to the optional Cyrus PSX-R external power supply for those looking to upgrade performance further down the line.

Important Owner’s Notes
This player uses a Philips CDM12 laser transport mechanism, a design also used in various other CD players of the period; as with any CD player of this age, laser wear and disc-reading reliability are worth bearing in mind over the long term, though the unit has been checked and is reading and playing discs correctly at the time of testing.
