The Sound Burger’s platter and tonearm sit exposed on a compact, book-sized chassis with no lid or dust cover in the conventional sense; the whole unit folds flat, with a hinged clamp arm swinging across to hold the record in place during play, allowing it to be operated on the level rather than requiring a level, dedicated surface in the way a conventional turntable does. Drive comes from an electronically controlled DC motor via a small belt to a 90mm die-cast aluminium platter — tiny by conventional turntable standards, a direct consequence of the compact form factor. The tonearm is a dynamically balanced design, and the unit includes both headphone line-outs and a conventional line-level output, allowing it to be used entirely standalone with headphones or connected into a wider hi-fi system.
The cartridge fitted is Audio-Technica’s own AT103, a dual magnet moving-coil-style design built into the tonearm, with a user-replaceable ATN103 stylus.
