Cyrus 1 (Cyrus One) Stereo Integrated Amplifier with MM/MC Phono Stage — Grade B | Fully Tested

The Cyrus 1 is a stereo integrated amplifier produced by Cyrus Electronics of England, first introduced in 1984. Its appearance in the mid-1980s was a significant moment in British Hi-Fi — a compact, cast aluminium amplifier that demonstrated genuinely audiophile performance at a price accessible to a much wider audience. Built around minimalist circuitry, military-grade power transistors, and a diecast non-ferrous alloy chassis designed to suppress mechanical resonance and interference, the Cyrus 1 remains a respected and sought-after piece of vintage British Hi-Fi. This example includes both the MM and MC phono stage and has been fully checked and tested by Andrew prior to listing.

Condition: Grade B — Very Good This unit presents well with light signs of use consistent with its age. Please refer to our photographs for a full assessment of cosmetic condition.

Description

Key Features

  • 25 watts per channel into 8Ω from a compact cast aluminium half-width chassis — a figure that understates the amplifier’s real-world drive capability, owing to its well-engineered power supply
  • Diecast non-ferrous alloy outer case and diecast aluminium chassis with integral heatsink — an unusually rigid construction that actively contributes to sonic performance by suppressing resonance and microphony
  • Built-in MM/MC phono stage — accepts both Moving Magnet and Moving Coil cartridges, with separate sensitivity settings for each. The MC capability was uncommon at this price point in the mid-1980s
  • Five inputs: Tape, Video, AUX, CD, and Phono — with the ability to listen to one source while recording another
  • Separate Listen and Record selector switches for flexible tape monitoring
  • Balance control offering ±5dB adjustment per channel, designed for room correction rather than channel isolation
  • Headphone output on the front panel
  • Minimalist signal path philosophy — only essential circuit stages are included, with selected passive components and ALPS switches throughout
  • Made in England by Cyrus Electronics
