The Play is built around AKM’s AK4493SEQ DAC chip, part of AKM’s Velvet Sound family and the same architecture used in the higher-priced DMP-A8. It supports PCM up to 32-bit/768 kHz and native DSD512, with full MQA decoding and rendering also included. EverSolo’s proprietary EOS audio engine bypasses Android’s default sample-rate conversion to allow bit-perfect output from third-party applications at their native resolution, including Apple Music at full hi-res quality.
The amplifier section uses a Class D topology rated at 60 W per channel into 8 ohms and 110 W per channel into 4 ohms — sufficient output for the majority of bookshelf and standmount loudspeakers. EverSolo’s implementation uses Texas Instruments PurePath Ultra HD technology with integrated feedback and high-speed gate driver error correction, aimed at achieving low distortion across the audio frequency range. Measured THD at 5 W into 8 ohms at 1 kHz is 0.0037%. A dedicated subwoofer output with an adjustable crossover frequency (40–500 Hz) is provided for those wishing to add a powered subwoofer to the system.
A notable first for EverSolo is the inclusion of a built-in phono stage supporting both MM and MC cartridges, allowing a turntable to be connected directly without a separate phono preamplifier. The MC input operates at a fixed 74 dB gain with 0.5 mV sensitivity — suitable for most low-output MC cartridges — with a ground terminal provided. This makes the Play an unusually complete proposition for anyone wanting to combine vinyl playback, digital streaming, and amplification in a single box.
Other analogue inputs include a line-level RCA input for connecting an external source. Digital inputs cover HDMI ARC — allowing TV audio to be routed through the Play’s amplifier and speakers — coaxial S/PDIF, and optical TOSLINK. The Play can also be used as a pure digital source component: its USB-A audio output supports up to 32-bit/768 kHz PCM and native DSD512 for feeding an external DAC, and a coaxial digital output is provided for the same purpose, though limited to PCM 24/192 and DSD64 (DoP) on that connection.
The unit is Roon Ready certified and supports Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect, Spotify Connect, and AirPlay. Built-in streaming service integration covers Tidal, Qobuz, Amazon Music, Apple Music, Deezer, Highresaudio, SoundCloud, TuneIn, Radio Paradise, and others. Bluetooth 5.3 is included for wireless audio input, supporting SBC and AAC. Network connection is via Gigabit Ethernet or built-in dual-band Wi-Fi. External storage can be connected via the USB 3.0 port on the rear; unlike the DMP series, the Play does not have an internal M.2 SSD slot.
DSP functionality is comprehensive and hardware-accelerated: parametric EQ, room correction, high- and low-pass filters, and FIR filtering are all available and apply across sources. The front panel carries a 5.5-inch LCD colour touchscreen with a glass fascia, alongside a single multi-function rotary knob encircled by an RGB light ring. The chassis is CNC-machined aluminium alloy with passive cooling fins on the underside, and is notably compact at 229 × 229 × 75 mm — a square footprint that sits equally naturally on a desk or a shelf. A 12 V trigger input allows the Play to be switched on remotely by a compatible source component. The EverSolo Control app for iOS and Android provides full remote control of all functions.

The EverSolo Play is an unusually complete proposition at its price point — combining streaming, DAC, phono amplification, and up to 110 W Class D amplification in a chassis small enough to sit comfortably on a desk. It functions equally well as a standalone all-in-one system requiring nothing more than a pair of loudspeakers, or as a high-quality streaming source feeding an external DAC or amplifier via its digital outputs. The standard edition reviewed here omits the integrated CD transport of the CD Edition but is otherwise identical in features and performance.
