The FVP-5000T was, at launch, the only Freeview Play recorder to incorporate three digital tuners, allowing up to four programmes to be recorded at once while watching another live channel. This makes it considerably more flexible than most PVRs of its era, particularly for households with multiple viewers or overlapping favourite programmes. The unit provides 85 Freeview channels, of which 15 are broadcast in HD, alongside more than 25 digital radio stations, all accessible via an eight-day electronic programme guide.
Being a Freeview Play device rather than a simple Freeview HD recorder, the FVP-5000T also brings together catch-up and on-demand viewing in one place. It carries the full suite of catch-up apps including BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, All 4, Demand 5 and UKTV Play, accessed once the box is connected to the internet via built-in Wi-Fi or its Ethernet socket. A dedicated Humax app for iOS and Android allows remote planning and programming from a smartphone or tablet, and the supplied remote includes hot keys for Freeview Play and On Demand content, plus a dedicated Netflix button. A USB input is also fitted, allowing playback of a range of media file types from an external device.
