The JVC A-X4 combines Super-A amplification with a built-in phono stage and five-band S.E.A. equaliser, offering useful flexibility for a traditional separates system. This example has been checked and tested by Andrew. See below for an enhanced description.

The A-X4 brings source selection and stereo amplification together in one chassis. JVC’s Super-A circuitry is a feature of this design, with a continuous rating of 60 watts per channel into 8 ohms across the audio band.
For someone assembling a system around existing source components, an integrated amplifier keeps the setup straightforward: one unit handles both volume control and the power needed by passive loudspeakers.
The phono stage accommodates moving-magnet and moving-coil cartridges. Tuner, auxiliary and tape connections allow other analogue sources to share the system.
A CD player, streamer or DAC with a suitable analogue output can therefore be used alongside a turntable. A digital-only source will need digital-to-analogue conversion before connection.
JVC’s five-band Sound Effect Amplifier equaliser provides more targeted adjustment than a simple bass-and-treble pair. It gives the listener scope to adjust tonal balance for a recording or personal preference.
Match the phono setting to your cartridge. A turntable with its own active phono preamplifier should feed a line-level input instead. If you are unsure which setting your system needs, we can help before purchase.
Provide ventilation around the amplifier and check speaker impedance before connecting multiple pairs.
