The 2Xperience’s acrylic plinth is a significant engineering choice rather than a purely aesthetic one. Acrylic has an acoustic impedance that is closely matched to that of vinyl, which means that vibrations transmitted from the record into the platter and plinth are less likely to be reflected back into the stylus as coloration. The plinth is further isolated from the supporting surface by three height-adjustable feet — damped with TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) material — which decouple the turntable from low-frequency structural vibration transmitted through furniture. The motor is physically separated from the plinth and connected via the drive belt, preventing motor vibration from reaching the bearing and platter directly.
The platter is a 300mm MDF design running on a low-tolerance chrome-plated stainless steel axle in a sintered bronze bearing housing with a Teflon bearing plate — a combination chosen for its very low friction, long-term dimensional stability, and quiet running. The belt drives the platter from the outside edge via a two-step pulley on the motor spindle, allowing manual speed change between 33⅓ and 45rpm by repositioning the belt between the pulley steps. The external DC power supply is housed in a separate enclosure, keeping its switching noise and electromagnetic field away from the turntable’s sensitive circuitry and bearings.
The tonearm is the Pro-Ject 9cc, a 9-inch (230mm effective length) carbon fibre design. Carbon fibre is chosen for its combination of very high stiffness and low mass — properties that allow the tonearm tube to resist flexing under stylus-tracking forces without adding the resonant mass that would otherwise compromise tracking at the groove frequencies. The bearing housing uses inverted ABEC 7-specification ball races, a design in which the bearing races are oriented to present their lowest-tolerance surface to the direction of vertical tracking forces — improving sensitivity and reducing the threshold of friction that would otherwise prevent the stylus from responding to the finest groove modulations. The armbase allows adjustment of arm height and therefore VTA (vertical tracking angle) if required. Internal wiring is high-purity copper from headshell to the gold-plated phono output sockets.
The cartridge fitted is the Ortofon 510 MkII, a moving magnet design from Ortofon’s Series 500 range. It generates an output voltage of greater than 3.0mV at 1kHz — sufficient for use with any standard moving magnet phono input without the need for additional gain. The stylus is an elliptical type with tip radii of 8/18µm, offering better groove tracing accuracy than a spherical tip, particularly in the inner grooves where tracking distortion is most apparent. Dynamic compliance is 20–25µm/mN, which pairs well with the 9cc tonearm’s effective arm mass of 8.5g — a well-matched combination for accurate tracking at the recommended 1.5g tracking force. The stylus presents well with no visible wear and the cartridge is aligned and functioning correctly.
