- Ultra-Lightweight Plinth: The Planar 8 features a skeletal plinth constructed from a Tancast 8 polyurethane foam core (developed for the aerospace industry) sandwiched between two layers of rigid HPL (High-Pressure Laminate). This design makes it 30% lighter than the original RP8 while increasing rigidity.
- Double Brace Technology: A phenolic resin double brace is mounted specifically between the tonearm mounting and the main hub bearing, creating a structurally sound “stressed beam” assembly. This prevents energy absorption and unwanted resonances.
- RB880 Tonearm: This precision tonearm features an improved vertical bearing assembly using aluminium and stainless steel, offering greater stability and rigidity. It uses a preloaded zero-tolerance bearing assembly for friction-free movement and zero unwanted play. It also has a thinner stainless steel balance weight for greater adjustability and is terminated with a redesigned, low-capacitance phono cable with locking phono plugs.
- Neo PSU: Supplied as standard, the Neo PSU offers electronic speed change (33⅓ and 45 RPM), advanced anti-vibration control, and user-adjustable electronic fine speed adjustment for accurate motor control. It uses a DSP generator based on a high-stability crystal to produce a near-perfect sinusoidal waveform for the motor.
- Triple Layer Glass Platter: A super flywheel effect platter made from three layers of laminated glass, with the majority of the mass concentrated on the outer rim for increased speed stability without overburdening the main bearing.
