The Shure M95ED is a classic moving-magnet phono cartridge from Shure’s Stereo Dynetic range, well regarded in its day for its clarity, high compliance, and easy compatibility with a wide range of tonearms. Part of Shure’s mid-price line-up, the M95ED offered a genuine step up in resolution over lower-tier cartridges such as the M75ED, and remains a popular choice today among vinyl enthusiasts restoring or maintaining a vintage system. This example has been fully checked and tested by Andrew in our workshop.

Key Features

The M95ED uses a nude biradial (elliptical) diamond-tipped stylus mounted on a thin-wall alloy tubular cantilever, chosen for accurate groove-tracing and a natural, detailed reproduction of recorded music. The elliptical profile gives improved high-frequency tracing ability and reduced distortion compared with a conventional spherical stylus, particularly noticeable on complex or densely modulated passages. The cartridge’s high compliance makes it well suited to a wide range of tonearms, and it is compatible with standard half-inch (12.7mm) mounting centres for straightforward fitting to most turntables. As a moving-magnet design, the M95ED works with any standard MM phono input, requiring no special step-up or head amplification.
