The CD-P1260 is built around the Sony KSS-213C laser pickup, a well-proven and widely used mechanism with a good track record for reliability. The transport is a tray-loading design with the disc clamped onto a centre-mounted mechanism, which TEAC notes improves weight distribution and reduces vibration during playback. Digital-to-analogue conversion is handled by a 1-bit converter with 8x oversampling digital filtering, providing a smooth interpolated output from the 44.1kHz CD signal. The analogue output is a standard pair of RCA phono sockets at 2V, suitable for connection to any amplifier with line-level inputs. There is no digital output on this model.
Beyond standard CD and CD-R/RW playback, the CD-P1260 supports MP3 files recorded to disc, with front-panel folder navigation for discs containing multiple directories. The fluorescent display shows track number and elapsed time, and can show ID3 tag data — artist, album, and track title — when playing MP3 discs. Playback modes include programme (up to 32 tracks), repeat, shuffle, and intro check. A front-panel headphone output with its own rotary volume control allows private listening without disturbing the main output level.
