Description

Powerful Amplification and Yamaha Cinema DSP

The RX-V800RDS contains five internal power-amplifier channels, each rated at 100 watts into 8 ohms across the audio band. This provides amplification for the main left and right, centre and two surround speakers, with a dedicated line-level output for an active subwoofer.

Dolby Digital, DTS and Dolby Pro Logic decoding are built in, together with Yamaha’s Cinema DSP processing. A choice of 19 surround programmes and numerous variations allows the presentation to be tailored for films, music and television. Matrix 6.1 and DTS-ES processing are also available within the receiver’s five-channel amplified configuration.

Digital sources can be connected through four optical and two coaxial inputs. A six-channel analogue input is provided for compatible DVD-Audio players, SACD players or external multichannel decoders, bypassing the receiver’s internal digital processing.

The RX-V800RDS is also well equipped for conventional stereo listening. It includes a moving-magnet phono input for a compatible turntable, along with connections for CD, tuner, tape and other line-level sources. Bass, treble and Yamaha’s Bass Extension function allow the tonal balance to be adjusted when required.

Pre-amplifier outputs are provided for the main, centre and surround channels, allowing external power amplifiers to be added. A subwoofer output, switchable main-speaker connections and Yamaha’s Silent Cinema headphone processing add further flexibility.

The built-in FM/MW tuner includes RDS reception and storage for up to 40 preset stations.

Important Owner’s Notes

This is an early-2000s AV receiver and does not have HDMI connections, 4K/HDR video support, Bluetooth, network streaming or decoding for modern lossless formats such as Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio.

For use with a modern television or video source, the video signal can be connected directly to the display while compatible audio is sent separately to the receiver through an optical, coaxial or analogue connection.

Although Matrix 6.1 and DTS-ES processing are provided, the receiver contains five internal power-amplifier channels. It should not be mistaken for a modern seven-channel or Dolby Atmos receiver.

The built-in phono stage is intended for moving-magnet cartridges. A low-output moving-coil cartridge will require a suitable external phono stage or step-up device.
