It’s not often you see one… but 5!
I have a DD-V9 and a VR9 in my collection.. Here they are with 3 other decks in at the same time for repair.
All working.

A couple of wonderful… and very heavy … beasts from the 1970s..
Both recapped and restored to full working glory.
JVC QL-A7
On the bench yesterday. JVC QL-A7. (TT-71 motor unit) This hadn’t run for a few years and although it would turn, didn’t keep good speed. I recapped all the electrolytics as some of the smaller ones had corrosion on their legs.. set up the adjustments and it runs well again.
I thought this may be the same internals as a TT-101 (QL10) but without the counter module…as we did 2 of those last year, but it is a totally different machine. The TT101 is all transistors, maybe 100 of them..no IC’s. The QLA7 has just 1 IC.
We see many of this type of early direct drive deck from a range of manufacturers. Almost all can be restored to running condition.
JVC 1973 VR & 4VR series
On the bench today. A customers JVC 4VR-5446 for cleanup and service.
So it was a great photo op to put our VR5521L, VR5525LX & 4VR-5436 alongside and turn off the lights

LD3141 IC’s. We are now selling modern made copies
The original LD3141 amplifier chips for the Akai 4000 series are now no longer available.
Currently plenty in stock
There are some out there offering NOS ones… but these are 40 years old too !
Each Akai 4000 has 4 of these and the GX-280 and 1730 has a pair…. and often one will have failed giving no playback or record on one channel. You can also get lots of hiss or crackles when these fail too. Even when working, they are hissy.. the new ones are much quieter.
A lot of hiss can also come from the C458 transistors on the panel too, so its worth changing those.. and if you want some just ask when buying these modules and I’ll send some FOC
I have had a good friend make batches of these here in the UK using decent transistors, to offer them now as an equivalent replacement for the LD3141. Its a delicate soldering job – 9 pins to de solder and then re-solder, so some soldering skills are required.
50+ already out and working fine.. all are tested upon manufacture.
